Volunteer Agreement 1. Volunteer Requirements • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. • Volunteers must complete an orientation and training session before beginning work at the shelter. • Volunteers must always follow all Levelland Animal Shelter policies and procedures. • Volunteers must wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toe shoes, while performing duties. • Volunteers must act professionally and respectfully toward staff, other volunteers, and members of the public. • Volunteers must follow all city ordinances and shelter regulations while performing their duties. • Rescues and fosters are not permitted to volunteer within the shelter. These groups may be eligible for volunteer opportunities when approved by Animal Control Manager. 2. Assigned Duties Volunteer duties will be assigned by shelter staff based on the shelter’s needs. Volunteers may decline duties if they are uncomfortable dealing with a particular species or situation. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: • Cleaning kennels and animal enclosures • Feeding and providing fresh water to animals • Walking and exercising dogs • Socializing cats and other small animals • Assisting with adoption events • Transporting animals for veterinary care (if approved by shelter staff) • Assisting with basic grooming and enrichment activities • General cleaning and maintenance of shelter areas 3. Behavior and Conduct • Volunteers must always treat animals with kindness and respect. • Volunteers may not take animals from the shelter without proper authorization. • Volunteers may not take photographs or videos of shelter animals without permission. • Volunteers may not interfere with shelter operations, including adoptions and rescue processes. • Volunteers must immediately report any concerns regarding an animal’s health or behavior to shelter staff. 4. Liability and Risk Acknowledgment • Volunteers acknowledge that working with animals carries inherent risks, including injury from bites, scratches, or zoonotic diseases. • Volunteers agree to release the Levelland Animal Shelter and the City of Levelland from any liability related to injuries or damages incurred while volunteering. 5. Termination of Volunteer Status The Levelland Animal Shelter reserves the right to terminate a volunteer’s participation at any time for failure to adhere to shelter policies, city ordinances, or inappropriate behavior. 6. Acknowledgment and Agreement By signing below, the volunteer acknowledges that they have read, understand, and agree to abide by the terms outlined in this agreement. If this agreement is not signed, the individual will not be permitted to volunteer at the Levelland Animal Shelter.
